DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, it is no secret that The Economist makes it almost impossible to cancel your subscription once you have signed up. I told customer service ten times that I just wanted to cancel the subscription and THAT I WAS NOT INTERESTED IN ANY FURTHER PROMOTIONS. The customer service agent just IGNORED everything I told him and kept giving me more promotion options even though I told him a thousand times THAT I AM NOT INTERESTED! He finally shut up after I used swear words that I was unfortunately forced to use. It is ridiculous how disrespectful they treat you and make it almost impossible to unsubscribe. I REPEAT, DO NOT EVER SUBSCRIBE TO THIS SERVICE!!!

Full of woke
Full of woke, liberal, left-wing rubbish, lies and the dedication to hide the truth about topics.
Bog roll!

I have been a regular subscriber to the Economist for over 20 years. Like most news media, the Economist will always have a political bias, but the articles are written in such a way as you can still establish your own truth.
I always learn something and it provides a financial or economic perspective with the topical news stories of the day.
I also like the fact that they are weekly news stories rather than daily, because there is more time for considered news writing, fact checking and a balanced perspective and less knee-jerk reactions and sensationalism.
The Economist maintains a unique position within media and long may it continue.
Always a good read!

Horrendous cancellation policy designed…
Horrendous cancellation policy designed to catch people out. Cancelled my subscription and have still been charged the full amount. Now waiting on customer services again to get back to me and explain their incompetence over something that should be routine.
Looking at the replies on this page just tell you what you need to know as well - pathetic responses saying they’re taking on board feedback when clearly that’s not the case.
Do not buy Economist branded gifts
Bought an Economist pen as a gift from the economistdiaries.com - the official Economist distributors Collins Debden. Picture on website shows it comes with a leather stud gift box/pen holder case. The description also refers to unique stud fastening gift box. Also refers to a refill. Pen arrived in a flimsy paper box. No stud gift box and no refil. Contacted economist diaries and told the description was a mistake. They clearly have the cases as the photograph included this! Will have to return this as I can give (an expensive) pen to someone who may look it up online and think I've kept the stud carry case and the refill. Obviously a scam outfit - complete rip off

Received a gift subscription and it doesn't work.
Received a gift subscription and have been trying for two weeks to make get the subscription started. Nothing seems to work as the signup process always gets stuck at the same point. Contacted customer service three days ago and no response. Will ask subscription giver to tell CC company to ask for money back since magazine is undelivered. Not bothering with the Economist in the future.

Online subscription doesn't work; customer service doesn't respond
Got a gift digital and magazine subscription. One month later, the website isn't accessible and the magazine isn't showing up. Customer service is non-existent and won't respond to emails. Maybe getting delivery by carrier pigeon would be better. The gift giver is asking the bank to cancel the order. Just save yourself the time and hassle and don't bother.

Amazing content , horrible subscription model
The magazine content is amazing but as many others have mentioned the subscription model is horrible and devalues the brand. I don’t like how to ‘get a better offer’ you have to say you are cancelling to get the discount. Long term readers are penalised for not cancelling. There should be a fixed price (that would be presumably cheaper without offering lots of people discounts) for all.
Awful cancellation practices
I cancelled my subscription today, with the intention of subscribing again later in the year, but the cancellation experience was such that I shall never do such a thing.
I am dealing with personal issues which will require me to relocate, and I don't want to read a magazine in an app, so the simple solution was to cancel and the subscribe again further down the line, but it took over an hour to cancel through the website, requiring a lengthy conversation in an online chat. I am not going through that rigmarole again. I don't like these pushy retention practices at all. This should just be a button on a website - the same as it was to join. So that's the end of my association with The Economist - a magazine I have read for over ten years.
I used to be a loyal The Economist…
I used to be a loyal The Economist subscriber. What a nightmare to cancel a subscription. They should be very ashamed. A year later I miss the magazine but will never resubscribe reading here that they are still such an awful customer service nightmare to cancel. Truly unbelievable. They should write an article about themselves ....
I used to love reading the Economist
I used to love reading the Economist, but they've grown lazy in their reporting such as when they wrote that the Supreme Court 'banned' abortion when they did no such thing, instead leaving it to the voters to decide either on a state basis or nationally. They are great wordsmiths but leave me feeling like I'd like an hour of my life back.
I had a horrible time trying to cancel my subscription. It felt like the Hotel California and took me hours to get it done.
On the plus side, they are not as bad as Fox News or the New York Times. Still looking for an even approach to both sides, like Jim Lerhrer News Hour used to do. The Wall Street Journal comes the closest. Though they are conservative, they do a pretty good job of keeping it to their editorial pages.

Cancellation process is extremely misleading.
I was not expecting such terrible behaviour from this magazine. If you want to cancel your subscription you can log in to your account, click on "cancel subscription", select the reason for cancelling and you'll get the "hate to see you go" message. BUT, your subscription won't be cancelled. You need to contact them via chat and the representative confirmed that they don't allow cancellations online. DON'T BE MISLEADING, REMOVE THIS BUTTON!
The articles are great though.

Cancelation of subscription is joke
Cancelation of subscription is joke. It’s simply no button and you need to
speak with chatbot who is trying to change your mind. And you need to write 7 times, you really want to cancel.
Unsubscridbe from all e-mails is also almost impossible.

Pestering constantly after cancelling
Pestering constantly after cancelling.
I closed my account a while back which was a painful ordeal in itself. Now they bombard me with constant emails to try and get me to rejoin and offer no ‘unsubscribe’ option. I wrote to their data protection team to make a specific GDPR request to be forgotten, which they ignored. There is no option to delete your account, so I’ve had to change my email address in my profile to an expletive laden fake one that sums up my feelings towards them.
Their every move since I tried to cancel has made me beyond certain / resolute that I will never use them again. Amazes me they’re affiliated with The Guardian, and puts me off them a bit as well
